A touch of Copland

My Hammered Dulcimer
It's not easy to say when I first became interested in the Hammered Dulcimer. I was certainly captured by its sound, and can remember
hearing it in a song recorded by that colourful character Cyndi Lauper, probably in the 1990s. I later found out that Cyndi plays
the Appalachian Dulcimer, which is not the same instrument as a hammered dulcimer, but maybe she plays both
and it's actually her on the recording, I don't know.
A little later I bought a Roland XP-80 synthesizer, and while exploring the multitudenous sounds lurking within it, I found that sound again.
Roll forward a few years and my youngest son, knowing how much I liked them, purchased a hammered dulcimer as a gift for me. A wonderful
instrument and with that lovely warm sound that I was already familiar with.
A touch of Copland
Just listen to how long that final note is sustained. Such a resonant instrument.
Heading West
If you're interested in hearing the song that (possibly) started it, here's a link. The specific dulcimer solo that I mentioned starts at
around 2'24" but you might as well listen to the whole track.
